The Long Island Iced Tea traces its creation back to the infamous Oak Beach Inn (“The OBI”) on Long Island in 1972. But like any revered drink, other origin stories go as far back as Prohibition where a version featured maple syrup. Whoever its righteous creator, this classic is one for the sipping.
How can a drink with no tea in it be so evocative of iced tea? Here’s how. This cocktail includes four liquors—vodka, tequila, light rum, and gin. Plus a splash of triple sec to sweeten things up and a dash of cola for a bit of iced-tea character.
Serve over ice in a highball glass with a lemon wedge. Add a straw for optimal sippage.
